Position:
Evening Staff Interpreter
Schedule:
5 evenings per week, available from 9:00pm-9:00am each evening
Rate of Pay: Based upon
interpreting level (preferred QA 2 /equivalent or higher)
Description: The primary
role of this position is to be available for assignments that arise
(whether in advance or last minute) from the hours of 9pm-9am, 5 days
per week.
Duties include but are
not limited to:
•
Being available
Sun 9p-9a, Mon 9p-9a, Tues 9p-9a, Wed 9p-9a, Thurs 9p-9a (off Fri at
9am until Sun at 9pm)
•
9:00pm is the earliest
time you would be expected to be ON-SITE at any Central Florida hospital
(Osceola, Orange and Seminole Counties). Turn phone/PDA on to
accept assignment information no later than 8:00pm. (The same as if you start an office
job at 9am in the morning you don’t bill the time it takes you to
get ready at your house/drive to the office; your start time of 9pm
is when you should be able to be ON-SITE at a hospital or facility).
•
Must keep cell phone
on during the above hours.
•
Should a hospital
outside of the tri-county area come in, travel time may also be billed
portal to portal (at your hourly interpreting rate)
•
Must respond promptly
when called by scheduling during hours listed (within 5 minutes).
•
Must be ready to
go when called (ie. Have extra pair of clothing available if you are
not home)
•
Most assignments
will be emergency requests; some will be made in advance.
•
Any Assignments
picked up outside of the schedule listed above are billed IN ADDITION
to the guaranteed minimum hours per week.
•
Assignments that
come in outside of the schedule above are BY CHOICE and not required
to be fulfilled (you may have 2 or 3 evenings where nothing comes in
and opt to pick up a daytime assignment for extra hours in addition
to your minimum for the week)
•
Note-the majority
of assignments during these hours are medical; this includes needing
strong stamina (long nights do occur), positive attitude even at wee
hours of the night, *FLEXIBLE*, able to handle
“3rd shift hours”, compassionate and personable
to interpret effectively for deaf patients in hospital situations.
• Benefits

Guaranteed 30 hours
minimum every week for being accessible during hours listed above (there
are busy weeks & light weeks- needs fluctuate daily/weekly); opportunity
for more hours arise during a) busy weeks with lots of overnight requests
and b) slow weeks when you can pick up daytime assignments if desired

• Time Off:
•
Guaranteed off starting
at 9:00am on Friday THROUGH Sunday until 9:00pm every week + 9am-9pm
each weekday
•
Time off requests
should be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to dates being requested
off
•
1 weeks’ paid
vacation is eligible 12 months after date of hire, requests prior to
that may be approved but will be considered ‘Unpaid Time Off’ and
hours will be deducted off the minimum guarantee (30 minimum hours per
week divided by 5 days per week = 6 hours/day)
•
Calling in sick;
if you call out sick:
•
If no assignments
have been scheduled when you call out = 6 hours per day deducted from
your minimum guarantee.
•
If you are already
scheduled for a specific assignment on a day that you call out sick,
any hours scheduled over 6 will also be deducted off your minimum. (To
compensate for those hours, you can use your sick/personal time if accrued/desired).
