American Sign Language Interpreting Services (ASL Services, Inc.) is a nationwide company dedicated to providing the highest quality of professional and ethical Sign Language services at reasonable prices to the community in accordance with the communication preferences of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons we serve.
Since 1989, ASL Services has set the regional standard in bridging communication and enhancing the quality of interaction between the Deaf and Hearing communities.
The ASL Services staff lives up to the highest standards of education and training. Angela Roth, the company's CEO, who is a nationally recognized leader in the field of American Sign Language interpreting leads our agency to offer highest interpreting quality and ethics.
ASL Services has an on-site Professional Development Skills Coordinator, which is currently being filled by Jason Hurdich, Deaf himself, a graduate from Boston University. Mr. Hurdich brings to ASL Services 13 years of teaching experience from major universities and colleges throughout the nation. Mr. Hurdich has been involved in training interpreters and interpreting students since 1993.
ASL Services provides primary interpreting services within Central Florida's region in a variety type of settings and is the contractor for interpreting services for major theme parks in Central Florida. ASL Services proudly employs one of the highest ratios of RID nationally certified interpreters on staff.
If you wish to apply for an internship/practicum experience at ASL Services, please send an application package consisting of:
Two letters of recommendations (one must be from a professor within your ITP/IPP or related program, and the other is at your discretion-no personal references will be accepted)
A current official college transcript (Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted)
A resume outlining your working experience, any prior interpreting experience including formal/informal training.
Copies of certificates of any interpreting or Deaf-related workshops or training that you have received in the last five years.
Copies of certificates of any affiliations to Deaf or interpreting organizations (i.e. RID, NAD, local Deaf and/or interpreting organizations, etc.)
Copies of any test results that you have taken in related to interpreting, if any, (i.e. RID/NIC Written Examination, State of Florida QA Written or Performance Exam Results, etc.)
A video of yourself (criteria is listed below)
We require a video of you meeting the criteria listed below. The videotape can be in VHS, Mini-DV or CD-ROM in .mov format.
There are three parts for the video portion of your application.
1. (Part 1) You will begin with a short introduction of yourself in ASL.
Give your name; where you are from.
Why do you want to be an interpreter?
What interpreting experience have you had thus far?
Please state your future goals as an interpreter after graduation.
Describe yourself: hobbies, personality traits, and etcetera.
PLEASE LIMIT THIS SECTION TO A MAXMIUM OF THREE MINUTES.
2. (Part 2) Please select the two of the following questions and respond in SPOKEN ENGLISH FIRST THEN SIGN IN ASL. Please indicate the question selected while voicing and signing. Simultaneous Communication (Sim Com) is not accepted. Please answer each question up to 2 minutes.
If you could have a 2 hour lunch with the person of your choice, anyone alive now, who would it be and why? What would you talk about?
What is one of your most embarrassing moments and how have you adjusted from the experience?
If you could go back in time to any event, what event would that be and why did you pick this event?
PLEASE LIMIT THIS SECTION TO A MAXMIUM OF THREE MINUTES.
3. (Part 3) You would interpret for this part from ENGLISH TO ASL.
Please select a favorite Disney song that runs for about 2 minutes.
Please give the song name in ASL.
Interpret the song from the beginning to the end.

Spring 2008 Semester/Quarter: October 15, 2007
Summer 2008 Semester/Quarter: March 1, 2008
Fall 2008 Semester/Quarter: June 15, 2008

Any uncompleted applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline.
The application review process will start right after the application deadline. If you pass the initial review, you will be contacted for a personal interview via a Video Phone at your college/university or via other technological means.
If you are accepted to our college internship program, you have 5 business days to decide whether or not you will accept our offer.
