ICE
December 29, 2005
Some things we don't like to think about but this seems like a good idea
ICE - In Case of Emergency A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular Consequence of last week's terrorist attacks in London.
Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative / next-of-kin in an emergency situation. The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I Had to look through the mobile phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone.
Now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history." By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative - which could be vital in a life or death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily help save your life. Why not put ICE in your phone now? Simply select a new contact in your phone book, enter the word 'ICE' and the number of the person you wish to be contacted.

GOFRID Meeting
December 05, 2005
Greetings Orlando interpreters!
We at GOFRID would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those of you who participated in our Professional Development Survey. The results of that survey will be announced at our upcoming END OF THE YEAR meeting. We are attempting something new this year…we’re going to have a very short meeting and then kick back and enjoy ourselves.
On Monday, December 5th in the community room at Fashion Square Mall, from 7-9 PM, GOFRID will be announcing the results of the Professional Development Survey as well as hold an election and appointment for two board vacancies. The positions of Vice President (appointment) and Secretary (election) are vacant. We are in the throes of several exciting projects, so we are looking for board members willing to roll up their sleeves and get down to work…but have fun in the process. GOFRID is what we make it!
We will also hold a raffle and host a potluck. Please bring a plate of “finger food” to share….and please bring a non-member friend!! This is a great opportunity to meet other interpreters and to join GOFRID. We’ll have a stack of membership forms ready!
In addition to the festivities, we are taking this opportunity to give something back to our Orlando community. Please bring a contribution for Harbor House, which is a shelter for abused and battered women. They have needs for items such as:
• towels
• food
• twin sheets sets (new) they take these with them when they leave
• ethnically diverse hair care products
• cleaning supplies
• yard work supplies, rakes and such ( keeping up the grounds is part of their stay at Harbour house
• new clothing
• money (of course)
All used items are donated to the Junior League "Bargain Box" from which the displaced women get to shop without charge for any clothing they need. This solves their storage problems and also benefits the "Bargain Box" who supports "Harbour House".
We look forward to seeing you on Monday December 5th for our END OF THE YEAR meeting. If you haven’t completed your survey you still have time! Please take a few minutes to answer the questions and email it back to us by December 3 in order to make your voice heard.
